Publication Ethics

The Journal of Literature Education and Cultural Studies (JOLECS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access international journal published by Akademi Bisnis Lombok. JOLECS is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and preventing publication malpractice.

This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, editorial board members, and the publisher. The journal follows internationally recognized ethical standards and adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Core Practices.

Duties of Editors

Editors are responsible for ensuring a fair, transparent, and objective editorial process.

Editors shall:

  • Evaluate submitted manuscripts solely on their academic merit, originality, scientific quality, and relevance to the scope of JOLECS.
  • Make publication decisions without discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, political belief, or institutional affiliation.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts throughout the editorial process.
  • Ensure that manuscripts undergo a rigorous double-blind peer-review process.
  • Select reviewers based on their expertise and independence.
  • Avoid any conflict of interest regarding submitted manuscripts.
  • Take appropriate action when ethical concerns or research misconduct are identified.
  • Follow COPE guidelines when handling allegations of plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, falsification, or other unethical practices.

Editors will not use unpublished materials disclosed in submitted manuscripts for their own research without written permission from the authors.

Duties of Reviewers

Reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining the quality and integrity of published research.

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide objective, constructive, and timely evaluations.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts.
  • Review manuscripts only within their area of expertise.
  • Inform the editor if any conflict of interest exists.
  • Identify relevant published works that have not been cited.
  • Report suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, or ethical misconduct.
  • Avoid using unpublished information for personal advantage.

The review process in JOLECS is conducted using a double-blind peer-review system in which both reviewers and authors remain anonymous.

Duties of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to JOLECS must ensure that:

  • The manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere.
  • The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal simultaneously.
  • All data presented are accurate, authentic, and obtained ethically.
  • Results are reported honestly without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation.
  • Proper acknowledgment is given to the work of other researchers.
  • All listed authors have made significant contributions to the research.
  • Any financial or personal conflict of interest is disclosed.
  • Ethical approval and informed consent are obtained whenever research involves human participants.
  • Authors cooperate during the peer-review process and revise manuscripts as requested.

Authors are responsible for correcting significant errors discovered after publication and shall cooperate with the editorial office regarding corrections or retractions.

Duties of the Publisher

Akademi Bisnis Lombok, as the publisher of JOLECS, is committed to supporting editorial independence and ensuring that editorial decisions are free from commercial influence.

The publisher is responsible for:

  • Supporting ethical publishing practices.
  • Preserving the academic integrity of the journal.
  • Providing resources necessary for the editorial and peer-review process.
  • Ensuring that allegations of publication misconduct are handled according to COPE recommendations.

Conflict of Interest

Editors, reviewers, and authors must disclose any financial, institutional, academic, or personal relationships that may influence the review, editorial decision, or publication process.

Individuals with conflicts of interest shall withdraw from handling or reviewing the manuscript.

Publication Misconduct

JOLECS has zero tolerance for publication misconduct, including but not limited to:

  • Plagiarism
  • Self-plagiarism
  • Data fabrication
  • Data falsification
  • Citation manipulation
  • Duplicate submission
  • Redundant publication
  • Inappropriate authorship
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest
  • Ethical violations involving human or animal research

Any allegation of misconduct will be investigated following COPE guidelines. When misconduct is confirmed, JOLECS may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Reject the manuscript.
  • Publish a correction or erratum.
  • Retract the published article.
  • Notify the author's institution or funding agency.
  • Prohibit future submissions from the responsible author(s) for a specified period.

Ethical Oversight

Research involving human participants must comply with internationally accepted ethical standards. Authors should indicate that informed consent has been obtained and that the research has received approval from the appropriate institutional ethics committee whenever applicable.

Authors must protect the privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights of research participants.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the copyright of their work while granting JOLECS the right to publish the article.

All published articles are distributed under the journal's Open Access policy and the applicable Creative Commons License as stated on the journal website.

Complaints and Appeals

JOLECS welcomes appeals regarding editorial decisions and complaints concerning publication ethics.

All complaints and appeals will be handled fairly, transparently, and confidentially in accordance with the COPE Core Practices.
